Area rug cleaning

Start with the rug. Not a one-size-fits-all method.

Care for the rugs that bring your room together. Size, fibers, dyes, backing, and construction help determine the right cleaning approach.

Look beyond the surface.

Send the approximate length and width of each rug, plus its label if available. Photos of the front, back, fringe, and problem areas can help explain its condition.

Some rugs can be cleaned in place; others need specialist treatment. Wool, silk, handmade rugs, unstable dyes, and damaged backing deserve particular care. A method suitable for installed carpet is not automatically suitable for an area rug.

A useful starting point

For a useful estimate.

  1. The rug’s approximate length and width, and the number of rugs.
  2. Photos of both sides, the label, and any spots or damage.
  3. Material if known, previous treatments, and the surface beneath the rug.

Include your ZIP code, city if known, and parking or access details. We review requests from across the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Francisco and Daly City. Share your ZIP code and any parking or access details so we can check the route and availability.

Before you book

Good to know.

Can my area rug be cleaned at home?

That depends on its fibers, dyes, backing, construction, and condition. Some rugs can be cleaned in place; others need specialist treatment. Send the rug’s size, photos of both sides, and its label if available. Do not assume that a method suitable for installed carpet will also suit a wool, silk, or handmade rug.

What if I already tried cleaning the stain?

Tell us exactly what you used, including household remedies, and whether the appearance changed. Some products leave residue, affect dyes, or make a stain harder to treat. Avoid applying more products until the material and previous treatments have been reviewed.

Which cleaning method will be used?

The method should match the item, its care instructions, and its condition. Hot-water extraction, often called steam cleaning, applies solution and extracts it with loosened soil, but it is not suitable for every material. Confirm the specific method and products before booking rather than assuming every item receives the same treatment.
